   San Diego, Ca. (August 2007)--Of course the founders of Christian Music Times being business types and all, we writers always find it interesting to listen in on their conversations with people who have their fingers on the pulse of what is going on in the music industry. And there are tremendous changes in the music industry!
   It’s not just the Christian music genre, but all genres of music that are going through a paradigm shift in the way business is going to be conducted in the future. Of course the business is, ‘How do we connect more with our fans’, or ‘How to we get our music out to our fans more easily, and sounding the way we want it to sound.’
   For generations the way you accomplished this was with a corporate partner (a record label, for those wondering), and so the goal was to be signed by a label. In some situations that is still they way business is done. But more and more, and with the advent of technology, successful bands are able to start their own labels and as such keep the creativity they need to feel like complete artists and musicians.
   Switchfoot has made this transition. As of August 2007 they are now officially launching their own label, and managing their own creativity. As a fan I consider this absolutely awesome! Why; because they can now show us a side of their music that has not gone through the corporate filtering machine. We are going to start hearing Switchfoot un-filtered.
   “As a hands-on band, we feel so grateful for our newfound freedom. We are continually dreaming up ways to bridge the gap between the audience and the stage; this feels like an incredible step in that direction. A huge thank you to bob, amy, nicole and tim over at columbia who were there from the beginning. We would also like to thank our musical family here in the states and abroad for sticking with us through these columbia years. We couldn't have done it without you!” say the Switchfoot guys.
   With their wings un-clipped they have already put some new projects on their to-do list. Each one is being waited for at CMT with huge anticipation.
  • Four Jon Foreman solo EP's
    (tentatively titled Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer)
  • The real Sean/Jon (a collaboration between Jon Foreman and Sean Watkins of Nickel- Creek fame)
  • A new Switchfoot record in '08
    (the first 13 tracks were cut earlier this month!)
