Big Daddy Weave instantly hit the spotlight in 2002 as their first project, One and Only, appeared in SoundScan’s Christian Top 5, the highest debut for a new artist that year. Further honored with a Gospel Music Association Dove Award nomination for “New Artist of the Year” in 2002, the band garnered its first CHR No. 1 at radio with “Audience of One.” Other hit songs include “In Christ,” also from One and Only, and Fields Of Grace, the title track from Big Daddy Weave’s 2003 release.
Big Daddy Weave band members Mike and brother Jay Weaver, Jeremy Redmon, Jeff Jones and Joe Shirk recorded their new album, What I Was Made For, amidst devastation left by 2004’s Hurricane Ivan. Based in Mobile, Alabama, the band lost its main offices and the Weaver’s family home. What I Was Made For includes the current Top-10 AC hit, “Just The Way I Am,” in addition to the No. 1 AC hit, “You’re Worthy Of My Praise,” which features labelmates BarlowGirl.
Rocketown recording artist Ginny Owens won her first Dove Award in 2000 for New Artist of the Year, reflecting the success of her debut album, Without Condition. In addition to three No. 1 radio hits and Presidential performances, she has additionally appeared on Lilith Fair (1999), at the Sundance Film Festival (2000) and on National Public Radio. With two more studio projects as well as an acoustic EP, this past Spring Owens released her first live CD, recorded in 2004 at the House of Blues in New Orleans. Blind since the age of two, her original goal was to be a teacher, and she earned a degree in Music Education from Belmont University in Nashville and additionally launched her own non-profit organization, The Fingerprint Initiative. Described by Billboard as “a songwriter of incredible depth,” Owens fourth studio album, Long Way Home, is set to release Oct. 11.
